Zuni Migoze may not be a name that we have heard before, but in her home country Kenya and in Africa, she is well known. She has shared a stage with famous musicians such as Angelina Kidjo, and she was nominated in the Best African Music category of the 2003 Kora All African Music Award in South Africa.

After a successful performance at the World Music Festival in Ubud last month, she is now visiting Yogyakarta with her 5 person band. Saturday, May 5, at 7.30 PM she will play her African beat in ViaVia Café, Jl. Prawirotaman 30, Yogyakarta.

“The audience won’t be able to resist dancing when they hear Zuni perform,” said Meghan Pappenheim of the Bali Spirit Festival who also the initiator of the artist’s travel to Yogyakarta. “After having her in Bali, we just have to give more Indonesians the opportunity to hear her play.”

In Kenya Zuni is also known as an environmentalist and nutritionist. She is dedicated to teach women and children how to live healthy lives. She also loves to teach music to children.

Tomorrow, Sunday (May 6, 2012) she will visit Sanggar Anak Alam Yogyakarta to share her African rhythms and roots with children of Yogyakarta.

“ViaVia Café is proud to sponsor Zuni’s visit to Yogyakarta. Zuni is a musician of infinite talent that will make us smile and dance. In addition she is an idealist and a development worker. We hope she can inspire us to live better lives,” ViaVia Manager Romdi Sukardi said.
