Ketingan
Hamlet, Sleman Regency
Several species of egrets and herons have taken
up residence in Ketingan, where the local people
won an award in 2003 for voluntarily protecting
the birds. |
Plawangan-Turgo
Nature Reserve, Kaliurang
Ornithologists
have listed 96 bird species in Plawangan-Turgo
Nature, of which 26 are endemic. Many are endangered
and difficult to see, such as orange-spotted bulbuls,
red-breasted parakeets and Javan hawk-eagles.
Mr. Christian Awuy, a pioneer in local ecotourism,
is the expert bird-spotter of this area. |
