Jogja has several venues that host a variety of events ranging from visual arts exhibitions to traditional dance performances and from poetry readings to contemporary music concerts.

This art venue is run by Kompas Daily newspaper. Art exhibitions and performances change frequently. Most are free of charge.

This gallery is a collaboration of fine art and applied art, adding to Jogja’s art ambience. Exhibitions change frequently.

Indonesia Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta (ISI)

The largest art institute in Indonesia, ISI Yogyakarta is home to the Yogyakarta Symphony Orchestra and many master artists who are former ISI students. Faculties include Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Media Arts, with graduate studies in both Creative and Research Arts. The campus houses a gallery with a vast collection of visual art and photographic masterpieces, which are open to the public. Performances are regularly held. Check ISI’s website for schedules.

Jogja National Museum

Jogja's newest visual art museum occupies the building formerly used by ASRI (Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia, now known as ISI) and focuses on the works of Jogjakarta artists, many of whom are studying at the Indonesian Institute of Fine Arts (ISI).

Kedai Kebun Forum & Resto

Kedai Kebun features poetry recitals; hip-hop music and other performances; as well as photography and art exhibitions on a rotating basis. The restaurant serves inexpensive Indonesian, Chinese and Western food.

Museum dan Tanah Liat is an exhibition forum for painters, sculptors, collectors and exhibitors of objects, installation artists, dancers, musicians, and video artists, among others. Chief curator is Ugo Untoro, assisted by his wife and sculptor Supar Madiyanto.

Taman Budaya Yogyakarta (Yogyakarta Cultural Park)

This government-sponsored art venue houses rotating art exhibitions, music concerts, and traditional performances.

Art for Children programs are held every Sunday 10.00 am – 12.00 noon. Kids are encouraged to develop their talents in dance, painting, theater, music and singing. Children and parents can also hold discussions with Jogja senior artists. Advanced programs in dance and theater for teenagers are held on Fridays 13.00 – 15.00 pm. Taman Budaya also holds classical music assemblies and rehearsals for children and teenagers on Sundays 14.30 – 17.00 pm.

Like ViaVia Cafés all over the world, this place is a meeting point among travelers and between them and locals to promote cultural and social exchanges. ViaVia also offers alternative trips and travel information. Live jazz music is held on Friday evenings. Art exhibitions and performances are frequently held.
