This July 2012, world class visual art exhibition ART | JOG will be back for the fifth time to grace Indonesia and Asia world of art. Themed ’Looking East – A Gaze upon Indonesian Contemporary Art‘, the ART | JOG |12 will be held on July 14 to 28 at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta (TBY). By the theme, the exhibition aims to see what kind of art, specifically the contemporary art, is taking place in the eastern world, especially in Indonesia.
The art exhibition, as the main program of ART | JOG, will be divided into 3 sections: the Art Fair, the Commission Works, and Special Presentation. The program will also be supported with several public programs such as artist talk and institutions visits.
This time, through the program of Commission Works, three artists are invited to work specifically for the exhibition site ART|JOG|12. They are I Made Widya Diputra and Joko Avianto who will make a surprise on the facade and entrance area of the venue, and Angki Purbandono that is trusted to make a site specific installation inside TBY gallery. Three artists scheduled to take part in Special Presentation section are Damien Hirst (England, UK), Ashley Bickerton (Bali) and Wim Delvoye (Belgium).
Similar procedures is still being applied for the Art Fair section, i.e. by holding an open call to artists and the selection process conducted by ART|JOG artistic department. There are 883 artists who had sent applications for 1,692 works. The selection process which came up with decision to select 195 works of 150 artists to be a part of the Art Fair.
Having consistently held since 2008, the public began to accept the uniqueness of ART | JOG as an art fair that specifically work directly with the artists to present works of art from a variety of quality and medium, ranging from painting, graphics, photography, video, site specific installation, and multimedia.

The presentation also try to explore on not just how the West (the European artists) see the East, but also how the Eastern artists re-reading and positioning themselves in the middle of the art developments that taking place in the East in its conjunction with the current global situation.
ART | JOG | 12 is not just an ordinary art fair. Moreover, ART | JOG | 12 offers meeting space and direct interaction between art, artists, and public from various professional and geographical backgrounds. The event also offers a unique, artistic and exclusive experience which will not be found in other visual art activities.
Along with the implementation of ART | JOG as one of the prestigious visual art events in Yogyakarta, the networking of ART | JOG audience began to touch the collectors and art lovers from Asia and the world. To face the challenge of internationalization issues, a strategic managerial steps will be established to maintain the uniqueness character of ART | JOG.
